David Coulthard
AdvertisementThe sport of racing has given rise to new heroes. Amongst the new age speed kings is the British Formula one racing driver from Scotland David Coulthard. The driver has had a relatively long career now and his points seemed to be compiling to form a mountain. Throughout the thrills and spills of David’s career he has managed to end up fourth on the all time scorers list which is quite a commendable performance. Another achievement to the racer’s credit is that he is known as the top British scoring Formula one racer. With thirteen Grand Prix victories out which two were at Monaco, which makes him the first British racer since Jackie Stewart to secure a win there. He has even suffered injuries during his career but that did not stop the then young man to win Formula three races in Netherlands, Zandvoort, Macau and China.
His driving experience is extensive as he started karting from quite a young age. He was an excellent performer at all levels throughout his life. He was the first youngster to win the Autosport Young Driver of the year in the year 1990. The year 1993 saw Coulthard being selected as a test driver for Williams-Renault. The tragic death of Ayrton Senna at Imola turned out to be the opening for David Coulthard who was then promoted to the race team. During his first few years he was sidelined with the return of Nigel Mansell around four times where he had to sit back and watch others race. In 1995 however David became a full time driver for the Williams team.
He raced for the Williams team at the 1994 British Grand Prix but the performance was not something that would boost up his career. Two years later Coulthard became part of the Mclaren team where he got a chance to show the world some of his great skills. He was however overshadowed by the performance of his world champion team mate Mika Hakkinen. With time his performance kept on declining with the Mclaren team which eventually saw him leave only to join the Red bull team who were impressed by his experience. It was in this team that Coulthard manage to accumulate all those points that make him the leading British scorer in Formula racing.
